Edgar Wright Offered The Chance To Direct An Episode Of ‘The Walking Dead’ For Season 2

It seems that Edgar Wright has been on a never-ending press run for the past little while. With the run of interview for “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” now ending—it only recently opened in Japan—the helmer is currently in Austin helping to get the word out about Joe Cornish‘s alien invasion flick “Attack The Block” which he executive produced and played to a gangbusters reception at SXSW last night (look for our review later today). While Wright is yet to decide his followup to ‘Pilgrim’, in an interview with Collider the helmer revealed he’s been given the chance to take another crack at zombies in one of the most acclaimed new television series of last fall.
Frank [Darabont] asked me to do a ‘Walking Dead,’ actually,” Wright revealed. But before you start getting too excited, it doesn’t seem like he’ll take the gig.
”...I feel that there’s some subject matter that, like, even though it’d be great– and I love that show:  I actually watched four of the six episodes uninterrupted in one run; it was like zombie Pringles– I think that with something like that, with some TV shows, you wanna be in on the ground floor,” Wright explained. And we understand the sentiment; it must be difficult to just visit an already established world rather than being able to be get involved from the first step. And he certainly doesn’t want to make a false step in a show that’s beloved by many.
”.. I really enjoyed the first season, and I wouldn’t wanna be the guy that comes in and fucks it up,” Wright added.
So, don’t expect it to happen, but hey, maybe with enough of a push he’ll change his mind. “Attack The Block” will screen tonight at midnight and once more on Wednesday, and if you’re in Austin, we urge you to check it out. It currently is without U.S. distribution but don’t be surprised if that situation changes by the end of the week.
